Al-Maliki Emphasizes Broad Participation in Elections as a National Duty


Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, underscored the importance of broad participation in upcoming elections, describing voting as both a trust and a testimony. He highlighted the necessity for voters to select the most suitable and competent candidates.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki made these remarks during a conference aimed at supporting voters. He stressed that political meetings and dialogues are crucial in the process of state-building, and he emphasized the importance of collective efforts to safeguard Iraq and maintain its unity.



Al-Maliki further asserted that elections are a national and legitimate duty for everyone, urging citizens to embrace their national responsibility by participating extensively. He remarked on the role of democracy in streamlining the process of choosing parliamentary representatives, referring to parliament as a vital institution that embodies the soul of the state and government.



He elaborated on the duties of parliament, which include enacting or repealing laws and holding ministries and the state accountable. Al-Maliki noted that parliament is foundational to the state-shaping process, aligning with established constitutional procedures.
