Iraq’s Foreign Ministry Supports UN Security Council Vote on Western Sahara Autonomy


Baghdad: Iraq’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the UN Security Council’s vote in favor of the Western Sahara autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco, describing the decision as an important step toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the enhancement of regional security and stability.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation for the diplomatic efforts that contributed to shaping the understandings leading to the adoption of the resolution. The resolution renewed support for the political process based on the autonomy initiative, seen as a realistic and constructive framework that could help achieve a lasting and peaceful settlement of the dispute.



The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Iraq’s full support for UN efforts aimed at reaching a realistic, consensual, and sustainable political solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. This is intended to strengthen regional security and stability and promote constructive cooperation among all parties.
