Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Sunday facilitated the signing ceremony of the executive mechanism for the water cooperation agreement between Iraq and Turkey. The agreement was signed by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani emphasized in a statement from his media office that this agreement is a sustainable solution aimed at addressing Iraq’s water crisis. It focuses on implementing significant joint strategic projects in the water sector to manage resources and mitigate the effects of scarcity and drought.

Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of following up on the outcomes of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Baghdad last year. He noted that the water crisis is a global challenge, with Iraq being one of the most affected countries. The Prime Minister also mentioned that the new financing mechanism would enhance bilateral relations between Baghdad and Ankara, opening new avenues for cooperation across various sectors and serving the shared interests of both nations.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan extended President Erdogan’s greetings to Al-Sudani and lauded the Iraqi government’s efforts in strengthening bilateral relations. This collaboration has led to the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding across multiple sectors.
