UNICEF Reports Over One Million Children in Gaza Face Food and Water Shortages Despite Ceasefire

Gaza: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that more than one million children in the Gaza Strip still lack sufficient water and food, and that thousands of children go to bed hungry despite the ceasefire.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram stated that while the ceasefire is “good news,” it is not enough to end the suffering caused by hunger or to guarantee access to safe drinking water for families.

She explained: “The water and healthcare infrastructure in the Strip has suffered extensive damage, and families are still struggling daily to survive amidst the destruction of hospitals and shortages of basic supplies.”

She added: “Humanitarian aid has increased slightly since the start of the truce, but the quantities reaching the Strip are still far below pre-war levels and meet only a small fraction of the enormous needs of the population.”

UNICEF confirmed: “Thousands of children in Gaza continue to go to bed hungry, while others suffer in pain inside hospitals without receiving the necessary treatment due to the severe shortage of doctors and medicine.”

She noted that “the humanitarian situation remains extremely serious, and international efforts must focus on ensuring a sustained flow of aid to meet the needs of children and families facing the daily threat of hunger and disease.”
