Doha: President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, emphasizing the necessity of coordination on issues of mutual interest and working to establish stability and achieve sustainable development in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency stated in a press release that Rashid met today, Tuesday, with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Doha, Qatar.

The statement added that the meeting addressed relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in various fields, as well as the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two friendly nations in service of their shared interests.

The two sides reviewed the latest developments on the international and regional levels, and stressed the importance of supporting efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue in a way that contributes to consolidating international peace and security.

Rashid stressed the need to end the aggression against Gaza, calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure the delivery of food and medical aid to the Palestinian people. He also expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s struggle to achieve their legitimate rights and establish their independent state.

The statement continued, “The two presidents also discussed the issues on the agenda of the Second World Summit for Social Development and exchanged views on the resolutions to be issued by the summit, expressing their hope that these resolutions will contribute to supporting social development issues at both the regional and global levels.”

For his part, the Pakistani President expressed his appreciation for Iraq and its people, affirming his country’s desire to develop relations, expand areas of bilateral cooperation, and exchange expertise between the two countries. He commended Iraq’s pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability.
