Bel©m: Minister of Environment, Helou Al-Askari, affirmed today that Iraq faces significant environmental and climate challenges that require real and proven international cooperation and support.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Ministry statement indicated that Minister Helou Al-Askari led the Iraqi delegation at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Bel©m, Brazil, from November 6-7, 2025. The conference gathered leaders and representatives from various countries worldwide to discuss global climate challenges.

The Minister highlighted that Iraq is grappling with issues such as water scarcity, desertification, rising temperatures, and dust storms. He emphasized the necessity for Iraq to secure entitlements from the Green Climate Fund and to obtain financial and technical support. This support is crucial for implementing renewable energy projects, utilizing associated gas, expanding afforestation efforts, and ensuring sustainable water resource management.
