Baghdad: Newspapers in Baghdad have highlighted the emerging political landscape in Iraq, focusing on the potential changes within the Coordination Framework.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zawraa newspaper interviewed political analyst Ali Al-Baidar, who emphasized the necessity for political reform to align with regional realities and national needs. Al-Baidar noted that the current political system has reached its limits, necessitating a shift towards genuine reform to restore confidence domestically and internationally. He suggested that Iraq’s political forces should aim to transform the nation into a hub for investment and development rather than conflict.
Al-Baidar further predicted the formation of a coalition-based government, as major political forces seek involvement without moving into opposition. He also mentioned the potential for a renewed version of the State Administration Coalition with minor adjustments. The absence of political deadlock indicates smoother progress than in previous terms, with disputes likely limited to replaceable positions. The concept of a majority government seems to have been set aside for now, as no major political entity is ready to govern independently.
Meanwhile, Al-Sabah newspaper, another prominent publication, reported on the emergence of new pathways within the Coordination Framework. Spokesperson for the Khadamat (Services) Alliance, Hossam Al-Rubaie, elaborated on the Framework’s healthy political dynamics, which reflect a mature political process. These developments aim to expedite the formation of a new government and respect constitutional deadlines. Al-Rubaie highlighted the creation of committees within the Framework to set criteria for selecting the next prime minister, emphasizing transparency and objectivity.
Aqeel Al-Radheeni, spokesperson for the Al-Nasr (Victory) Coalition, reiterated the cohesion within the Coordination Framework, confirming that the selection of the next prime minister is a priority. The recent meeting of the Framework outlined a strategy to respect constitutional duties while ensuring state stability. Political analyst Dr. Aed Al-Hilali further noted that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has become a pivotal figure in future political arrangements, amid the intersection of local and international agendas.
On the economic front, Al-Zaman newspaper analyzed the factors behind the recent decline in global oil prices. Oil expert Kofand Sherwani discussed the gradual unwinding of OPEC+ production cuts, which included a significant reduction in Iraq’s oil exports. This adjustment phase, intended to unfold over a year, aims to remove more than two million barrels per day in voluntary cuts. Sherwani highlighted OPEC+’s readiness to adjust strategies to maintain market stability and protect producer countries if prices continue to decline. The newspaper also reported on the recent resumption of operations at Russia’s Novorossiysk port, which impacted oil prices after a temporary halt due to a Ukrainian attack.
