Washington: US President Donald Trump announced progress in the ongoing talks with Russia regarding a settlement in Ukraine, confirming that the dialogue between the two sides is proceeding positively.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump explained to reporters that a large number of the peace agreement’s provisions have already been agreed upon, noting that the course of the conflict on the ground is moving in one direction, which could lead to some disputed territories ultimately falling under Russian control.
He stressed that Kyiv must accept the proposed deal, warning that the war could continue for years given the numerical superiority of Russian forces over the Ukrainian army. The US president added that a meeting between Yuri Vytkov and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for next week, indicating that border issues are currently being discussed within the framework of a comprehensive settlement.
He emphasized that each party to the conflict will be required to make mutual concessions in order to reach a balanced agreement. Trump also noted that reaching an agreement is a necessary step before Zelensky’s upcoming visit to the United States. He indicated that Europe will be a key partner in future security guarantees, emphasizing that European countries are deeply invested in ending the conflict in Ukraine.
