Baghdad: The Italian ambassador to Iraq, Nicol² Fontana, has emphasized Italy's commitment to increasing exports and investments in Iraq, particularly in the construction and reconstruction sector. Fontana highlighted these efforts in a statement to the Iraqi National News Agency (NINA), indicating a strategic focus on fostering stronger economic ties between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ambassador Fontana stressed the importance of building communication bridges between the economic sectors of Italy and Iraq. He noted that while the current relationship is strong, there remains considerable room for growth in their economic partnership. Fontana's primary objectives include boosting trade volume and enhancing Italian investments in Iraq, responding to the robust demand for Italian products within the country.

Fontana also addressed the challenges faced by Italian businesspeople in Iraq, particularly the outdated stereotypes that persist within the Italian business community. He pointed out that Iraq has undergone significant progress and that Italian institutions must accurately portray the country's current state, which offers numerous opportunities for Italian companies. The ambassador underscored the need to overcome past perceptions as the existing challenges have significantly decreased.

The recent establishment of the Iraqi-Italian Business Council was commended by Fontana, who described it as a crucial link between their economic sectors. He noted that the council's board members represent all Iraqi regions, including the Kurdistan Region, where efforts are being made to strengthen relations. Fontana acknowledged the strong desire in Kurdistan to enhance cooperation with Italy and emphasized the importance of being prepared to meet this interest.
