Sulaymaniyah: Security and military expert Sarmad al-Bayati believes that the attack targeting the Kor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah province has an “internal, not external, character,” noting that “evidence suggests the unlikely involvement of regional powers in the operation.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Bayati explained that “Iran is far removed from the strike,” basing this on the advanced satellite surveillance capabilities possessed by the United States and Israel, which monitor all movements and military aircraft in the region.

He also denied any Turkish involvement in the operation, saying, “Talk of a Turkish attack is far from reality, and this is not the Turkish approach.”

Al-Bayati suggested that the attack was a result of “internal conflict within the region,” pointing out that “the timing of the attack followed the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s securing more than one million votes in the elections.”

He added: “The targeting may be more political than security-related, as prolonged power outages could contribute to increased public discontent with the regional government, which is dominated by the Kurdistan Democratic Party.”

Al-Bayati confirmed: “The results of the investigation into the targeting will be officially announced by the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, similar to what happened in Baghdad Agriculture Directorate incident.”

He also pointed out: “The formation of a joint security committee between the federal government and the regional government, with the participation of the international coalition for the first time, demonstrates the seriousness of the government and the committee in uncovering the perpetrators.”

The military expert stressed: “The physical evidence will reveal the whole truth,” explaining: “The remnants of missiles or aircraft cannot simply disappear or dissolve. These remnants will reveal their type, their source of production, and even their place of manufacture.”
