Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed on Wednesday that financial and banking reforms are primarily a national necessity to protect and stabilize Iraq's economy, rather than merely a response to external demands.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Hussein chaired the second meeting of the National High Committee tasked with examining the U.S. Treasury Department's decision issued on October 9, 2025, which includes placing several entities and individuals on its sanctions lists. The meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries and government bodies.
The statement mentioned that the committee reviewed actions taken by the concerned institutions at both the domestic and international levels, and discussed legal avenues and practical options to advance ongoing efforts. The committee also emphasized the continuation of meetings and the expansion of participation in the upcoming sessions.
Hussein stressed that the government's current and future economic policy requires a positive and responsible engagement with international developments in the financial sphere, ensuring the protection of national interests and reinforcing Iraq's economic stability.
