Baghdad: The Iraqi Red Crescent Society has revealed that hundreds of families have been displaced due to flash floods in several Iraqi provinces following intense rainfall over the last 48 hours. The northern and central regions of Iraq have been particularly impacted by these adverse weather conditions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the most severely affected areas are Sulaymaniyah and Kirkuk provinces. In Sulaymaniyah Governorate, districts such as Chamchamal, Kifri, and Kalar experienced substantial flooding, resulting in a large number of homes being destroyed. This has forced many residents to seek refuge in temporary shelters, including schools, Charmo University, and the Technical Institute.

The situation in Kirkuk Governorate is similarly dire, with significant infrastructure damage reported in several villages and on bridges leading to the area. The sub-district of Lilan, particularly the villages of Yarmjah and Zindana, has seen dozens of families evacuated in coordination with Civil Defense teams due to damage to their homes.

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society has stepped in to provide much-needed relief, delivering food assistance to affected families from the onset of the crisis. Additionally, a mobile medical clinic has been sent to Kirkuk Governorate to offer healthcare services to the displaced. The Society’s first responder and rescue teams are actively working with Civil Defense forces to rescue families trapped by the floods.

The organization has committed to ongoing humanitarian efforts across the impacted regions to help alleviate the hardship faced by these families during this crisis.
