Chabahar: CEO of the Chabahar Free Zone Organization (CFZO), Mohammad Saeed Arbabi, has underscored the strategic importance of Chabahar as Iran’s sole oceanic port, poised to become the main gateway for trade and transit with Afghanistan. In a recent interview, Arbabi detailed the infrastructure developments that have set the stage for enhanced investment and logistical partnerships between the two nations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Arbabi shared insights from recent engagements with ambassadors, including a noteworthy dialogue with Afghan Ambassador to Iran Fazl Mohammad Haqqani. Discussions revolved around enhancing economic, trade, and transit ties between Iran and Afghanistan. Arbabi highlighted Chabahar’s free trade and industrial zone as the most cost-effective entry for goods destined for Afghanistan, emphasizing its strategic location for accessing open waters.

Arbabi also pointed to the historical, cultural, and social connections between the two countries, noting the presence of approximately 1,700 Afghan residents and their families in Chabahar. He stressed the necessity of equal treatment for Afghan traders and prioritizing Afghan investors. To further bolster cooperation, Arbabi announced plans for a joint economic committee that will focus on trade, investment, and logistical matters. He highlighted the economic benefits of the Chabahar route, including lower transportation and transit expenses.

Looking ahead, Arbabi mentioned that developments such as the Chabahar-Zahidan railway and upgraded port facilities are set to enhance Chabahar’s role in facilitating bilateral trade and overcoming logistical hurdles between Iran and Afghanistan.
