Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Iraq’s strong condemnation of the Israeli entity’s recognition of what it calls ‘Somaliland.’

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry considered this action a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a clear breach of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. It emphasized that Iraq, as the current chair of the Arab League, views the declaration by the occupying entity as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Somalia. The Ministry believes this act undermines efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.

The statement further elaborated that such illegitimate steps pose a direct threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa region, contributing to complicated regional conditions and escalating tensions, which negatively impact international peace and security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Iraq’s firm stance in support of respecting the sovereignty and national unity of states, expressing complete rejection of any attempts to impose a fait accompli that contradicts national will. It called upon the international community, as well as regional and international organizations, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take a clear stance against these illegal practices, ensuring respect for international law and the protection of member states’ sovereignty.
