Baghdad: The House of Representatives officially voted today to elect MP Haibat Al-Halbousi as the new Speaker for the sixth legislative session. In a significant development, Al-Halbousi secured the position by receiving 208 votes.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the voting results saw MP Salem Al-Issawi garnering 66 votes and MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar receiving 9 votes. Additionally, there were 26 invalid ballots submitted during the voting process.
Al-Halbousi, born in 1980, holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science from Al-Mustansiriya University. His political career includes serving as the head of the Oil and Energy Committee in the House of Representatives during the fourth and fifth parliamentary sessions. He is recognized as one of the prominent leaders within the Taqaddum Party, under the leadership of Mohammed Al-Halbousi.
