Baghdad: The Council of Representatives is set to commence its sixth legislative term later today, ahead of its first official session, which will be held following the swearing-in of newly elected lawmakers.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, parliamentary sources have circulated preliminary information regarding candidates for the positions of First and Second Deputy Speakers of Parliament. These nominations remain pending the official announcement by the Speaker pro tempore, Amer Al-Faez, who will preside over the session in the main hall.

The leading candidates for the position of First Deputy Speaker reportedly include Adnan Fayhan of the Sadiqoun Bloc, Yasser Al-Maliki of the State of Law Coalition, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi of Al-Asas Bloc, and Ahmed Al-Asadi of the Reconstruction and Development Bloc.

For the position of Second Deputy Speaker, the prominent candidates are Shakhawan Abdullah and Ashwaq Al-Jaf of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Rebar Karim of Al-Mawqif Bloc, and Sarwa Abdul Wahid of the New Generation Movement. It is important to note that all nominations remain unofficial at this stage.
