China Opposes Israeli Recognition of Somaliland

Beijing: China strongly opposed the Israeli recognition of the so-called “Somaliland” region as an independent and sovereign state. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian stated at a press conference that his country supports Somalia’s sovereignty and opposes any actions that would undermine its territorial integrity and unity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Jian added that the Somali Federal Government immediately issued a statement categorically rejecting this move. He noted that regional organizations, including the African Union, the League of Arab States, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), also expressed their strong disapproval and condemnation of this step.

The Chinese Spokesperson affirmed that, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, Somaliland is an integral part of Somali territory, considering the issue an internal matter for Somalia.

The announcement last Friday by the Zionist entity recognizing the so-called “Somaliland” region as an independent state sparked widespread Arab, Islamic, and regional condemnation.
