Baghdad: The Parliament voted to elect MP Farhad Amin Atrushi as the Second Deputy Speaker, with Atrushi receiving 178 votes compared to his opponent Ribwar Karim’s 104, alongside 12 invalid ballots.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Farhad Amin Salim Atrushi, commonly known as Farhad Atrushi, was born on January 2, 1976, in the Duhok Governorate. He is a Kurdish politician affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and has an extensive background in both politics and academia.

Atrushi previously held the position of Governor of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq from 2014 until 2020, having been sworn in on June 12, 2014. Before serving as Governor, he was a member of the Iraqi House of Representatives from 2010 to 2014. During his tenure in the House, he was part of the Oil and Gas Committee, also known as the Energy Committee.

His academic career includes lecturing at the College of Law and Politics at the University of Duhok from 2006 to 2010. He also served as the Vice Chair of the Department at the College of Law at Nawroz University in Duhok from 2004 to 2006. In 2001, Atrushi lectured at the International Islamic Constitutional University in Malaysia, from which he graduated.

Atrushi is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University in Duhok, indicating his continued involvement in educational pursuits.
