Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has emphasized the importance of addressing protesters’ demands through dialogue, asserting that legitimate grievances should lead to reforms that benefit the populace.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a parliamentary session on Monday, Ghalibaf highlighted the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in differentiating between legitimate protesters and those he termed rioters. Ghalibaf stressed that efforts should be concentrated on restoring economic stability and asserted that the era of billions in exclusive rent-seeking has concluded. He emphasized that while the preferential exchange rate would remain, its advantages should be directly passed on to the public.

Ghalibaf reiterated the government’s commitment to meeting rightful public demands through structured measures, using public protests as a foundation for reforms. He cautioned against individuals with foreign intelligence links attempting to turn protests into unrest, urging firm and intelligent responses to safeguard public security. He expressed confidence that Iran would overcome such threats, despite the extensive resources deployed by adversaries.

He further elaborated on the pillars of national strength, including economic growth, maintaining purchasing power, market stability, management reform, strategic alliances, and robust defense capabilities. Ghalibaf also commended the government for implementing the electronic ration card program, acknowledging that while there may be execution flaws, the government is dedicated to adjusting benefits in accordance with inflation.

Addressing global issues, Ghalibaf criticized the double standards in the international system, citing the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza and the United States in Venezuela. He remarked that the world is witnessing a shift from international law to a more anarchic global order.
