Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a decree today, Thursday, appointing Ali Shamkhani as Secretary of the Supreme Defense Council. Ali Shamkhani, aged 70, is recognized as one of the most prominent political and military figures in Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Shamkhani has an extensive background in national security affairs, having served as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for a decade from 2013 to 2023. His new role as Secretary of the Supreme Defense Council is seen as a continuation of his influential presence in Iran’s security and defense sectors.
