Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting today to follow up on the electricity billing file in the electricity sector. The meeting was attended by advisors and officials from the Ministry of Electricity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani extended greetings for the holy month of Ramadan and instructed ministry staff, distribution companies, and maintenance departments to enhance their work efforts to ensure service delivery during this period. The Undersecretary of the Ministry presented an overview of procedures based on previous meetings and announced a transition to electronic billing for high-load customers starting next March.

Directors from distribution companies reported on revenue collection, meter reading, geographical coverage, and subscriber numbers. Al-Sudani emphasized evaluating Ministry of Electricity officials based on revenue efforts, highlighting this as crucial for reducing waste and ensuring service continuity.

The meeting also discussed combating electricity theft, addressing malfunctioning meters, and proposals for smart meter installations compatible with the HES system. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing decisions to address losses, reduce expenses, and achieve full meter reading and collection rates, focusing on high-load users and government departments.
