Kyiv: Explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, early Sunday morning, following official warnings of a possible ballistic missile attack on the city.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Kyiv military administration declared a state of air alert due to what it described as a threat of ballistic weapons use, urging residents to immediately seek shelter and remain there until further notice. The explosions were heard around 4:00 AM local time.
Regional authorities reported that air defense units intercepted drones detected in the airspace over the Kyiv region, reiterating their call for civilians to refrain from filming or disseminating any material related to ongoing military movements or activities.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Since the outbreak of war in February 2022, Kyiv has been subjected to frequent missile and drone attacks, with recent weeks witnessing an escalation in the frequency of nighttime strikes targeting military infrastructure and energy facilities across the country.
