Baghdad: The Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Anil Bora Inan, confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Baghdad to repatriate more than 180 Turkish fighters in the ranks of ISIS from Iraqi prisons, along with their children, in a crucial security and humanitarian step. Turkish media quoted Bora Inan as saying that a meeting will be held next week in Baghdad to identify and organize legal procedures within the framework of joint security coordination.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein confirmed during his meeting with Trump’s envoy Tom Barrack that Turkey had agreed to receive its citizens involved in terrorism. He noted that Iraq continues to communicate with other countries to transfer their nationals.
On another note, media reports indicated that the transfer of 7,000 detainees from SDF prisons in Syria includes approximately 2,000 Turks, a higher number than announced due to forged identities. Among them is “Abu Ubaida,” Ilyas Aydin, wanted for the 2015 Ankara bombing and known as the ISIS “Emir of Istanbul.” This transfer is part of a tripartite arrangement between Baghdad, Washington, and Ankara to close the ISIS file.
