Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Iraq calls for de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan through diplomatic dialogue. In a statement, the Ministry said that the Republic of Iraq is following with grave concern the security developments and serious clashes taking place on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have resulted in a number of casualties and injuries, and have raised fears of escalating tensions in the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, while expressing its deep regret over these events, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes the importance of restraint and prioritizing dialogue and diplomatic means to address differences, thereby contributing to strengthening regional security and stability.
It added that, in this context, the Republic of Iraq calls on both parties to resort to established diplomatic channels and work to de-escalate the situation and prevent its further deterioration, based on the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the autonomy and territorial integrity of states.
The Ministry reiterated Iraq’s position calling for the resolution of disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
