Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the latest developments in the region and their impact on regional security and stability with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in a telephone call.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the call included an assessment of the military escalation and attacks against both countries. Views were exchanged on the evolving security situation, and both sides emphasized the danger of other parties being drawn into the conflict, which could lead to its expansion.
Both sides stressed the urgent need to contain the crisis and prevent its further spread, and to work towards a cessation of military operations. They also emphasized the importance of protecting vital maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, given its strategic importance to the global economy and energy security.
Minister Fuad Hussein noted that “the continuation of the war would exacerbate the instability in energy markets and negatively impact the stability of the global market.”
The two ministers affirmed that “the best way to address crises lies in returning to peaceful paths and adopting dialogue and negotiations as the primary option for resolving conflicts.”
