Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call today, Sunday, from the Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine, Farseen Shaheen.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister conveyed the greetings of the Palestinian leadership and government to the Iraqi Minister and leadership, emphasizing the deep fraternal relations between the two countries and her country’s keenness to strengthen them in various fields.
She also addressed the misunderstanding that arose following the issuance of a statement regarding Iraq’s deposit of its maritime maps with the United Nations, clarifying the circumstances of the matter and offering her apology.
For his part, Fuad Hussein expressed his gratitude for this initiative, appreciating the sense of responsibility and the commitment to clarifying positions in a way that contributes to strengthening mutual trust.
The Minister affirmed that the Iraqi people have always stood in solidarity with the Palestinian people, praising Iraq’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause.
Fuad Hussein emphasized that Iraq believes in the justice of the Palestinian cause and that its positions stem from its unwavering principles, positions that are consistent and supportive of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The two sides also discussed developments in the region, stressing the danger of the ongoing war and the necessity of working to contain its repercussions.
At the end of the call, the Minister reiterated his thanks for the communication and frank dialogue, which strengthens bilateral relations and maintains channels of communication between the two sides.
