Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized today, Monday, the importance of Europe playing a key role in efforts to end the escalation and halt the attacks.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Hussein discussed, in a telephone call with German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul, developments in the region and their repercussions on Iraq and neighboring countries.
The German Minister, according to the statement, affirmed his country’s support for Iraq and its solidarity with the country in light of the current challenges, noting that “the scope of the war is expanding in more than one direction.”
The statement continued, “During the call, Fuad Hussein raised fundamental questions regarding the objectives of the continued military escalation, asking whether the goal was solely to destroy the Iranian nuclear program, despite the ongoing and progressing negotiations. He also questioned the motives behind expanding the war.”
Hussein emphasized that “Germany, given its strong relations with the US administration, is capable of playing a significant role in pushing for a ceasefire,” stressing “the importance of Europe assuming a leading role in efforts to end the escalation and halt the attacks.”
