Baghdad: Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen has expressed the Netherlands’ readiness to support Iraq concerning the detained ISIS members. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from Berendsen.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Dutch Minister emphasized the necessity of finding a solution and containing the escalation in the region. He praised the Iraqi government’s policy of transferring ISIS terrorist elements to Iraqi prisons in Baghdad, calling it an important step towards strengthening security and stability.
The Dutch Minister further expressed his country’s readiness to support Iraq in this area, indicating that the Dutch embassy in Baghdad will be instructed to coordinate with the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They will explore ways to provide the necessary support to the Iraqi government on this issue.
The statement also noted that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein provided a detailed explanation regarding the situation of ISIS terrorists detained in Iraqi prisons. He emphasized that the European Union and its member states have a duty to support the Iraqi government in managing this significant and sensitive issue. This is particularly important as some of these terrorists hold European and Western nationalities, which requires greater international cooperation to address shared responsibilities.
