Baghdad: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, conducted a field visit to the Arar border crossing to monitor the workflow and procedures in place for receiving and facilitating the entry of Iraqi travelers and citizens arriving from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries (UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain) via Saudi Arabia, given the current circumstances.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli reviewed the operational mechanisms and coordination among the departments working at the crossing during the visit. He emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to ensure the smooth flow of travelers and expedite inspection procedures, thereby achieving a balance between security requirements and providing the best possible services to citizens.

The head of the Authority also personally monitored the crossing procedures and the provision of transportation services for travelers via taxis and buses belonging to the Iraqi Hajj and Umrah Authority. He further ensured that Iraqi vehicles were permitted access to the crossing to transport citizens into the country.

In a related context, Al-Waeli affirmed that border crossings will not be affected should any maritime port be closed, as there are multiple alternatives to ensure the continued flow of trade and goods into Iraq. He noted that the Authority's staff are working around the clock to facilitate the entry of containers and goods through various ports to supply the local market with essential commodities.

The head of the Authority stressed the necessity of adhering to government instructions and regulations, and enhancing coordination and integration among the relevant agencies to guarantee the smooth flow of passengers and goods. This reflects efficient performance and reinforces the role of border crossings as the country's primary gateway.
