Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has called for the formation of a diplomatic alliance involving countries in the region and the European Union to bring an end to the ongoing war. A statement from his media office revealed that al-Sudani participated via video conference in a meeting organized by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission. This conference, held on Monday, focused on current regional developments, with the participation of leaders and officials from various Arab and foreign countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani, during his address to the conference, emphasized the necessity of a unified and firm stance to stop the conflict. He highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation to prevent escalation, which he noted poses a significant threat to international peace and security. Al-Sudani expressed his opposition to war and aggression and dismissed any attempts to involve Iraq in the ongoing conflict. He explained that violence without international legitimacy, and outside the framework of Security Council resolutions, could lead to a major regional conflict.

Al-Sudani reiterated his call for the establishment of a diplomatic alliance, stressing the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities. He urged respect for state sovereignty and commitment to regional security, good neighborliness, and adherence to the UN Charter. The Prime Minister also condemned attacks on Iraqi territory by all parties and rejected the logic of war and aggression. He affirmed Iraq's position against using its territory or airspace for attacks on neighboring countries.

The statement further noted that al-Sudani denounced attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing Iraq's solidarity with Arab states in protecting their territorial integrity. He condemned the repeated Israeli occupation attacks on Lebanon, describing them as blatant breaches of international law. Al-Sudani stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue and unifying Arab and Islamic ranks to preserve Arab national security.

Al-Sudani concluded by warning that continued attacks would complicate efforts for a ceasefire and prolong the conflict. He called for the UN General Assembly to issue a resolution to stop the war and urged the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure international peace and security.
