Ankara: The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador in Ankara following the downing of a missile in Turkish airspace. The ministry called in Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh to express Turkey's displeasure and concern over the ballistic missile incident involving a missile launched from Iran that breached Turkish airspace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish diplomatic sources revealed that the Foreign Ministry sought an explanation from the Iranian ambassador regarding the incident. The Turkish Ministry of Defense had earlier reported that NATO air defenses, stationed in the eastern Mediterranean, neutralized the ballistic missile after it entered Turkish airspace.

The Turkish Defense Ministry confirmed that the NATO air and missile defense system successfully intercepted the missile, with its fragments landing in an open area in Gaziantep province, southeastern Turkey. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported. This incident marks the second occurrence of a missile entering Turkish airspace in the past five days.

It is noteworthy that the Turkish Defense Ministry had previously reported, last Wednesday, that NATO air defenses in the eastern Mediterranean neutralized another ballistic missile launched from Iran, which was detected heading toward Turkish airspace.
