Baghdad: The Ministry of Communications, through the General Company for Post and Savings, has initiated strategic steps to enhance Iraq’s integration into the global e-commerce system. These initiatives are focused on modernizing postal services to support the burgeoning e-commerce industry in the country.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry outlined plans to update the postal code system to align with modern, internationally recognized standards. This initiative is part of a broader effort to develop the postal infrastructure, which includes the establishment of a dedicated postal exchange center designed specifically for e-commerce services.
Additionally, the measures entail the launch of an electronic platform aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. This platform will enable businesses to enter shipping data and track parcels electronically, facilitating easier access to e-commerce channels. The Ministry emphasized that these efforts are intended to strengthen the Iraqi postal service’s position both regionally and internationally, improve service efficiency, and ensure comprehensive institutional and organizational integration. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to stabilize incoming mail rates in accordance with international standards, thereby opening new opportunities for advancing Iraq’s e-commerce sector.
