Basra: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, recently carried out an inspection of the Safwan border crossing, Umm Qasr South Port, and the main reception area at Basra ports. This visit aimed to evaluate the work processes and procedures at these significant trade and passenger traffic hubs in the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Authority’s media office released a statement detailing the visit, which included a comprehensive tour of the Safwan border crossing and the main reception area. During the tour, Al-Waeli reviewed the operational mechanisms, procedural frameworks, and the level of coordination among the security and service agencies at the crossing.

The statement further noted that Al-Waeli conducted an extensive meeting with representatives from the operating departments to discuss prominent challenges and obstacles that hinder operations. The discussions focused on addressing these issues to enhance efficiency and improve services, with a strong emphasis on overcoming obstacles swiftly to ensure the smooth transit of passengers and goods, thereby elevating the performance at all border crossings.

Al-Waeli underscored the importance of adhering strictly to applicable laws and government regulations, along with bolstering monitoring and inspection procedures to thwart smuggling attempts. These measures are vital for protecting the national economy and enhancing border security. He reiterated the Border Ports Authority’s ongoing commitment to supporting ports and advancing their infrastructure to fulfill operational needs and serve the public interest.
