Ankara: Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan informed his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi that violations of Turkish airspace are “unacceptable” and emphasized that Turkey will persist in taking necessary measures in response.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this communication occurred during a phone call following two incidents of airspace violations within a week, as reported by sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Fidan underscored that any breach of Turkish airspace would not be tolerated and assured that Ankara would continue to address such incidents appropriately.

Fidan also highlighted the importance of all parties refraining from actions that could jeopardize regional security or endanger civilians. Meanwhile, Araqchi explained that the missiles directed toward Turkish airspace did not originate from Iran and promised a thorough investigation into the incidents.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry had summoned Tehran’s ambassador to Ankara, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, on Monday to express Turkey’s concerns over the two ballistic missile launches from Iran towards Turkish airspace. On the same day, Ankara reported that NATO air defenses in the eastern Mediterranean had neutralized a ballistic missile from Iran that entered Turkish airspace, with debris landing in an uninhabited area in Gaziantep province in southern Turkey.

Earlier, last Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that NATO air defenses had similarly neutralized another ballistic missile from Iran that was detected heading towards Turkish airspace.
