Erbil: Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani discussed regional developments with US Special Envoy to Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack in a phone call.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani’s media office stated that Barrack conveyed President Trump’s greetings to Barzani and thanked him for his leadership in managing regional affairs and maintaining stability, security, and development. Barrack affirmed that the United States continues to view the Kurdistan Region as an ally and friend and will maintain close coordination with the region. He emphasized the importance of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as key pillars of the region.
Barrack added that in these complex circumstances, the United States will continue to support both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in finding solutions to outstanding issues in a way that serves the interests of both sides in all areas. Barzani affirmed that the Kurdistan Region always strives to promote comprehensive regional stability and firmly believes in democracy, coexistence, and dialogue.
Barzani clarified that the region has always been part of the solutions and has never been, nor will it ever be, part of any problem. He also briefed the special envoy on the recent attacks launched by some outlawed armed groups against the Kurdistan Region.
