Moscow: The Russian and American presidents engaged in a telephone conversation to address the Ukrainian crisis, the Iranian issue, and prospects for bilateral cooperation. The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin held the call with US President Donald Trump during the United States’ celebrations of its 250th Independence Day.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, described the conversation as “very practical and constructive.” He emphasized that developing mutually beneficial relations between Russia and the United States serves the interests of both countries and the international community. During the call, the Ukrainian crisis was a focal point, with Putin presenting Moscow’s assessment of the situation, highlighting the continued advance of Russian forces. Trump reiterated his readiness to assist in ending hostilities, stressing that resolving the conflict could pave the way for enhanced economic cooperation between the two nations.
The discussion also covered the Iranian issue, with Putin expressing hope for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran to yield long-term solutions. These negotiations are based on a memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries. Putin affirmed Russia’s willingness to support efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and stabilizing the region.
Both leaders underlined the importance of ongoing bilateral contacts, particularly in political, military, and economic fields, recognizing the potential for joint cooperation. The call also touched on preparations for launching a joint Russian-American crew to the International Space Station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
Putin and Trump agreed to maintain communication and plan another call in the near future, given the ongoing consultations on various international issues, including the Ukrainian crisis and the Iranian issue, as well as economic and trade cooperation files.
