Baghdad: The Civil Defense Directorate has released crucial recommendations and guidelines to help citizens cope with the soaring temperatures during the summer months. These measures aim to increase public safety and minimize risks associated with high temperatures.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the guidelines emphasize the importance of removing certain items from vehicles when parked, such as explosive gases, lighters, soft drink or water bottles, perfumes, and batteries. It is advised to keep car windows slightly open for ventilation and avoid filling the fuel tank completely. Refueling should ideally take place in the evening or morning to reduce the risk of evaporation and potential fire hazards. Drivers are also encouraged to avoid driving during peak heat hours and to refrain from over-inflating tires, particularly during travel.

Additionally, the guidelines caution against placing cooking gas cylinders in sunny areas and stress the importance of not overloading electrical outlets. Air conditioners should only be operated in occupied areas, using reliable protective devices. The use of low-quality electrical outlets is discouraged, and attention should be paid to electrical switchgear to prevent mixing national grid power with generator power. Overloading electrical wires and using makeshift connections are also discouraged, as these can pose significant fire risks.

Furthermore, the Civil Defense Directorate advises ensuring the availability of all necessary safety equipment in swimming pools and instructing users on pool depths and safety guidelines. Swimming in rivers is discouraged, but if necessary, individuals should choose previously used safe areas.
