Prime Minister’s Decision Leads to Closure of Labor Office at National Investment Commission

Baghdad: The Ministry of Labor issued a clarification regarding the Prime Minister's decision to close the labor office at the National Investment Authority. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs explained the reasoning behind this decision, indicating a significant shift in the processing of work permits.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs elaborated on the directives issued by the Prime Minister during the latest cabinet meeting. The closure of the labor office at the National Investment Commission was initiated at the Ministry's request. The Department of Labor and Vocational Training advocated for this measure, as the office's operations became redundant following the implementation of an automated system for issuing entry visas to foreign workers. This new system, which facilitates electronic visas for expatriate workers, was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the National Investment Commission. It aligns with the government's push towards streamlining procedures and embracing digital transformation.

Osama Majeed Al-Khafaji, the Director General of the Department of Labor and Vocational Training, highlighted that the adoption of this system is crucial for accelerating the issuance of work permits, regulating the labor market, and ensuring adherence to legal regulations. He further noted that the department remains vigilant in monitoring non-compliant companies, taking necessary legal actions, and enhancing the oversight system by preparing detailed periodic reports and statistics to aid in decision-making.
