Mosul: Rehabilitation and maintenance work has begun on Bash Tabia Castle as part of efforts to preserve Mosul’s historical heritage.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil announced the commencement of rehabilitation and maintenance work on Bash Tabia Castle, a step aimed at preserving one of the most prominent historical landmarks in Mosul and reviving it according to scientific and engineering standards.

Al-Dakhil stated to the Iraqi National News Agency (NINA) that “the project is being implemented by the University of Mosul in cooperation with the Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate. Specialized technical teams have begun the first phase of work by digitizing the castle and preparing a comprehensive digital model of it, as a prelude to conducting a comprehensive engineering feasibility study overseen by the relevant authorities.”

He added that “the University of Mosul will provide technical supervision for the implementation phases in coordination with the Antiquities Inspectorate to ensure the preservation of the castle’s historical and archaeological value.”

He emphasized that “the local government is giving great attention to the maintenance and rehabilitation of heritage sites due to their civilizational, touristic, and cultural importance to the province.”

He pointed out that “the Bash Tabia Castle rehabilitation project is part of a comprehensive program to revive archaeological landmarks in Nineveh, contributing to strengthening the city’s historical identity and supporting reconstruction efforts and preserving its cultural heritage for future generations.”
