Basra: Protesters in Basra province decided this evening to withdraw from in front of the Kuwaiti consulate on the Shatt al-Arab Corniche, after giving the relevant authorities a four-day deadline to resolve the case of the murdered Iraqi fisherman, Najm Abdullah al-Tamimi.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the protest was organized by residents of the province who condemned what they described as the abuses suffered by Iraqi fishermen at the hands of Kuwaiti authorities while in Iraqi territorial waters. The protesters demanded that the Iraqi government take decisive measures to ensure the protection of Iraqi fishermen and prevent the recurrence of such violations.
The demonstrators emphasized the need to preserve Iraqi sovereignty and guarantee the safety of those working in the fishing sector. Their demands highlight the ongoing tensions between Iraq and Kuwait regarding territorial and maritime disputes, particularly those impacting local fishermen.
