Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on Ukraine to support the discussions held between Russia and the United States in Anchorage, Alaska, if it wants to move towards a settlement agreement. In a press statement, Fidan noted that he visited Russia last June and held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and representatives of the intelligence and security services. He was also received by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan explained that the Russian president confirmed to him during their meeting his commitment to the agreements reached during the talks between the Russian and American leaders in Alaska. Such meetings are held annually, focusing on bilateral relations and regional issues, including the situation in the South Caucasus, the Middle East, and the conflict in Ukraine.
Fidan added, "The Russian side is committed to what was agreed upon. But it takes two to tango." Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held talks on August 15, 2015, in Anchorage, where they discussed ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Both leaders described the meeting as positive. Following the summit, the Russian president stated that a solution to the conflict in Ukraine was possible, emphasizing Russia's desire to reach a lasting settlement.
