Director General of Southern Environment Department Identifies Over 70 Sewage Outlets in Tigris River

Wasit: More than 70 sewage outlets have been identified in the Tigris River, and legal action will be taken against those responsible. The Director General of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Southern Region, Ali Wahab Ahmed, announced the detection of these sewage outlets discharging into the Tigris River within Wasit Governorate, confirming that legal action has been initiated against the responsible parties.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ali Wahab stated, "The department has filed lawsuits against the Wasit Sewerage Directorate to address the issue of sewage discharge into the river." He noted that his visit to the governorate included monitoring the causes of pollution in the Tigris River and inspecting the discharge sites on the ground.

Wahab further mentioned that the tour also involved monitoring the work of removing water hyacinth from the Tigris River and irrigation canals. He emphasized the continuation of environmental measures aimed at reducing pollution and preserving water resources in the governorate.
