Baghdad: The head of the Supreme Committee for Million-Person Pilgrimages has convened with the Iranian and Pakistani ambassadors to deliberate on the organization of Arbaeen pilgrims and the activation of a memorandum of understanding. Lieutenant General Dr. Qais Al-Muhammadawi, who serves as the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations and Head of the Higher Security Committee for the Million-Person Pilgrimage, engaged in discussions concerning the transportation mechanism for pilgrims from both countries to the holy city of Karbala. The meeting focused on the logistics of the Arba'een pilgrimage of Imam Hussein, including the timing and procedures for pilgrim entry.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Joint Operations Command highlighted that the Head of the Service Committee for the Million-Person Pilgrimage, on behalf of the Prime Minister's Office, outlined the efforts being made to deliver optimal services to the millions of mourners attending the event.
In a move to enhance coordination, an agreement was reached with the presence of several security leaders and pertinent authorities to activate a temporary memorandum of understanding between Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. The agreement encompasses aspects such as establishing a database and emphasizing regulations for bus transportation. It also involves organizing entry procedures in batches based on the capacity of each border crossing and amending certain clauses in previous memoranda to comply with Iraqi laws. These measures are designed to facilitate the entry, movement, and protection of visitors arriving by land and air.
The meeting also examined the plans formulated by Iran and Pakistan to ensure their citizens' smooth and secure entry into Iraq.
