Baghdad: Iraqi Agriculture Minister Abdul Rahim al-Shimmari met with his Lebanese counterpart, Nizar Hani, on Wednesday to discuss prospects for cooperation among the members of the four-party agreement, which includes Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. "Minister of Agriculture Abdul Rahim al-Shimmari met with Lebanese Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani via videoconference," the Ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on exploring avenues for collaboration under the four-party agreement aimed at achieving sustainable agricultural development in the member states. The discussions highlighted the potential for importing fruit and resuming partnerships with Lebanese companies. The ministers also considered exchanging expertise in agricultural quarantine, drought-tolerant seeds, veterinary services, and smart agriculture.
The statement further noted that an invitation was extended to the Lebanese Minister of Agriculture to visit Lebanon to exchange views and initiate cooperation in agricultural fields.
