Basra: The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has offered its condolences to the families of the victims of a tragic traffic accident that occurred in southern Iraq during the Arba'een pilgrimage. The ministry also extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry released a statement expressing "deep sorrow" upon receiving news of the accident in Basra Governorate. The accident claimed the lives of numerous participants who were en route to Karbala to commemorate the Arba'een pilgrimage.
The statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed, "We ask God for mercy for those who lost their lives in the accident, and we extend our sincere condolences to their families, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
The tragic accident resulted in at least 10 fatalities and left 12 others injured in the Al-Haritha district, northeast of Basra. The incident occurred when a driver lost control of his vehicle, subsequently running over several pedestrians walking along the roadside.
