Baghdad: The President of the University of Baghdad met with the President of the University of Sulaimani to discuss the activation of a strategic agreement and the strengthening of academic cooperation between the two institutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the University of Baghdad stated in a press release that its President, Alaa Abdul Hassan Al-Zughaibi, led a high-level academic delegation to the University of Sulaimani. The purpose of the visit was to discuss mechanisms for activating the strategic memorandum of understanding previously signed by the two universities. The goal is to translate this memorandum into executive programs that will foster academic and research cooperation.

During the meeting, President Al-Zughaibi emphasized the importance of implementing the agreement’s provisions. This implementation is expected to enhance scientific partnerships, expand the exchange of expertise, and promote joint scientific research. The focus will be on aligning research outputs with societal needs and development requirements.

The meeting also included discussions on future cooperation plans. Participants highlighted the necessity of working as a unified team to boost the academic standing of both universities. By leveraging shared scientific capabilities, the institutions aim to improve the quality of education and scientific research. They also seek to achieve a prominent position in global rankings, while reaffirming the University of Baghdad’s historical status as the oldest university in Iraq.

This initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4, which advocates for quality education, and Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships for achieving the goals.
