Baghdad: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Sunday that it is investigating reports of an overnight attack on the construction site of the Darkhovein nuclear power plant in Iran. The agency is currently working to verify these reports and assess the situation at the site.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the IAEA stated that the Darkhovein facility was in the very early stages of construction and did not contain any nuclear material at the time of the last inspection. This suggests that the potential impact of the reported attack may be limited in terms of nuclear safety.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran had previously announced that the United States targeted the Darkhovein plant in the early hours of Sunday morning. This development comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, with military operations continuing for the eighth consecutive day following the collapse of the ceasefire between the two sides.
