Baghdad: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun arrived in Washington on a mission to open the door to dialogue on disarming Hezbollah. He will hold meetings with the Secretary of State and the White House. Aoun is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, then head to the White House to meet with US President Donald Trump next Tuesday, as part of a tour focused on regional and security issues and stability in Lebanon.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the visit comes amid expectations that Beirut will announce a written proposal outlining its vision for a plan to disarm the party and assessing its implementation. In Washington, this plan is viewed as a sensitive step related to the party’s history and its military and political structure in Lebanon, and forms part of broader discussions on the security situation and its regional implications for Lebanon and the region.
