Baghdad: Members of Parliament have formally requested the establishment of a Supreme Armament Fund directly connected to the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The proposed fund aims to streamline the preparation of armament plans across various branches of the security and military forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the fund would include representatives from the security ministries, relevant formations, agencies, and the Ministries of Planning and Finance. Its duties would encompass developing and implementing armament plans for entities such as the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Counter-Terrorism Service, the National Security Service, the Popular Mobilization Forces, and the National Intelligence Service. The fund would also be tasked with securing necessary funding.

The MPs highlighted that the fund’s primary focus would be on financing essential contracts linked to air defense, cybersecurity, ballistic missile defense, drones, and the advancement of modern science and technology. Additionally, it would support strategic projects aimed at preserving national sovereignty. The financial resources for the fund would be allocated from the general budget, distinct from the budgets of the respective military and security formations.
