Baghdad: The Sadiqun parliamentary bloc has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law, underscoring its importance as a national and constitutional necessity. The bloc is actively working with the Speaker of Parliament and other political entities to expedite the inclusion of this draft law on the parliamentary agenda. They emphasize that passing this law is crucial for safeguarding the rights of PMF members and reinforcing their role in defending Iraq, its people, and its sacred sites.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the bloc’s leader, MP Uday Awad, highlighted during a joint press conference that their efforts will persist until the law is enacted. This initiative aims to solidify institutional stability and ensure the PMF members’ rights in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.

In light of the recent incident involving the deaths of Iraqi fishermen, the Sadiqun bloc expressed approval of the government’s actions, particularly the removal of officials who failed in their duties and the recognition of the victims as martyrs. This recognition ensures that the victims’ families receive their legal rights and privileges.

Awad pointed out that while these measures are significant, it remains imperative to complete investigations to fully understand the incident and hold accountable those responsible. He also stressed the importance of legal and diplomatic actions to secure Iraq’s rights and to avert similar occurrences in the future.

Furthermore, Awad called for enhanced protection for Iraqi fishermen by improving coordination between security and maritime authorities. This would help create a secure environment for fishermen to work, while also preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and the dignity of its citizens.
